Dozer financing

A dozer is the machine that turns a rough site into a graded one, and the machine where grade control has changed the business: a dozer with a 3D system finishes grade without stakes, and a contractor who has one bids differently. iFinancial Group finances dozers new or used, with grade control on the same approval, on a one-page application. No tax returns and no audited financial statements to apply, no minimum and up to $1,000,000.

Who you're dealing with

iFinancial Group has funded equipment since 1997, roughly $600 million of it, in all 50 states. We're a direct lender, not a broker, so the file is underwritten in house and not shopped around. Our customers have ranged from independent manufacturers to global technology companies. We've barely advertised in almost three decades. The business came from repeat customers, referrals, and vendors sending us their customers.

What you're financing

Small dozers, the 80 to 100 horsepower machines that do residential and light commercial finish work, typically list new from about $150,000 to $250,000. Mid-size dozers of 130 to 200 horsepower, the standard site work machine, run roughly $300,000 to $550,000. Large production dozers run $600,000 and up. A six-way blade, a cab and a ripper are typical on a site work spec.

Those are market ranges. The maker, the hours, the undercarriage and the grade control system move them.

What goes on the same approval

The dozer, the blade configuration, the ripper and the grade control system go on one approval. A 3D grade control system on a mid-size dozer runs $50,000 to $90,000 installed, and it's financed with the machine, whether the dealer installs it or a technology dealer does.

Freight on a dozer is real money, since it moves by lowboy, and it's a soft cost that can ride on the same deal along with an extended warranty and operator training, on many deals up to 30% of the total.

Who buys them and how the payment gets covered

Site work and grading contractors, land clearing operations, subdivision developers who self-perform, landfill operators and farms with land to shape. Grading is billed by the job or by the hour, and a dozer with grade control gets a day rate a plain machine doesn't.

Grading stops when the ground freezes. Where the year is uneven, seasonal payments follow the working months.

New or used

A mid-size dozer six to ten years old typically trades from about $100,000 to $300,000 depending on hours and undercarriage. Small dozers run $60,000 to $150,000 used. Dealers, auctions and private sales all move dozers, and all three are financeable here.

On a used dozer the undercarriage is the inspection, because a full undercarriage on a mid-size machine can run $30,000 to $60,000. Percent of undercarriage life remaining is part of the price. On the financing side it's the invoice or bill of sale, the serial number, and proof of what was paid. There's no title; the lender's claim is a UCC filing against the serial number.

What slows a dozer deal down

Machines above $1,000,000 are written under a master lease. Below that it's the same one page. Auction purchases are about timing, so the approval should be in hand before the sale; it holds up to 60 days.

A grade control system added after the fact, on a machine already owned, can't be financed as a new purchase, but a recent purchase can sometimes be handled through a sale-leaseback to put the cash back.

How it works with iFinancial Group

It's the same one-page application whether the equipment is small or the deal runs to $1,000,000: no tax returns and no audited financial statements to apply, no minimum and up to $1,000,000. Decisions typically come back within 24 hours, and an approval holds up to 60 days. New and used equipment, terms up to 84 months, and soft costs up to 30% so freight, setup and training can go in the same deal. Payment structures beyond level payments are there when the equipment earns unevenly. We've been doing this since 1997, in all 50 states.

Common questions

Can the grade control system be financed with the dozer?

Yes. It's financed with the machine it's mounted on, from the same dealer or a technology dealer, on one approval.

How does undercarriage wear affect financing a used dozer?

It's priced in. A machine at 30 percent undercarriage is worth less than one at 80 percent and is written on that value. The review looks at the whole machine.

Can I finance a dozer from an auction?

Yes. Get approved before the sale and bid with the financing in hand. The auction invoice and proof of payment are what the review works from.

Can the attachments go on the same financing as the machine?

Yes. Buckets, thumbs, hammers, forks, grapples and the quick coupler are part of the equipment and go on one approval with the machine, whether they come from the same dealer or a different one.

What do you need to approve a deal?

A one-page application. No tax returns and no audited financial statements to apply, no minimum and up to $1,000,000. Decisions typically come back within 24 hours.
